o PRINCIPLE OF SELECTIVE PHOTOTHERMOLYSIS:
The Alexandrite laser emits a focused beam of light at a specific wavelength (usually 755 nanometers). This wavelength is highly absorbed by the melanin present in the hair follicles. Melanin is responsible for the color of the hair and also plays a critical role in its growth. When the laser is directed towards the skin, the melanin in the hair shaft and hair follicles absorbs the laser's energy. The surrounding skin has relatively less melanin, so it is not affected by the laser. This selective absorption of the laser's energy by the follicles is the key to effective hair removal..
o THERMAL TARGET:
As the melanin in the follicles absorbs the laser's energy, it is converted into heat. This localized heat destroys the hair follicles, inhibiting their ability to regrow hair. The heat generated during the process is carefully controlled to avoid damage to the skin.
( For this reason, we cannot apply the treatment to areas that have been exposed to the sun and the skin has changed color - from tanning - because the energy will not be concentrated in the pocket but will be diffused on the surface of the skin).
o HAIR GROWTH CYCLES:
Hair grows in cycles, and not all hair follicles produce hair simultaneously. Laser hair removal is more effective when the hair is in the active growth phase (anagen phase of the hair). Since only a percentage of hair follicles are in this phase at any given time, multiple treatments are required with specific time intervals between them to target as many follicles as possible.
( For this reason there will not be a desirable result if, for example, you do not come in the specific timeframe we give you when you leave your treatment. If we tell you to come on a specific date with a 5-10 day deviation and you come after 1 month or more you will NOT have the desired thinning in the specific period you want).
(This is why the follow-up session takes place on certain days after the main hair removal treatment and does not take place whenever we want. That is why we do not apply a follow-up session AFTER this time even if anything happened. If we do not adhere to the treatment application laser according to the hair growth cycle we will have the least good result and thinning will not be successful in the time period we want).
o AFTER TREATMENT:
After laser treatment, the targeted area may exhibit mild redness, swelling (perifollicular edema), and itching, which usually persist for a few hours to a day after the treatment. It is essential to follow the pre-treatment protocol as instructed by the professionals in the field.
(For this reason, we would like you to tell us all your medical history when you come to the clinic, even if it changes during the application of your treatments, e.g. you are taking antibiotics that may affect your photosensitivity, etc. We also want you to call us if you experience any problem or develop a concern about your treatment aftercare).
